Bhubaneswar: Age doesn’t bar a person willing to learn new things. This was evident in Jaleswar in Balasore district where a 50-year-old man is appearing in annual High School Certificate (HSC) or Matriculation exams.

Kalpana, a resident of Makidia village under Jaleswar block in Balasore district, who had to quit school for her marriage 30 years back, is now appearing in the Matric examinations.

According to sources, Kalpana had enrolled herself on March 12, 2019 as a student at Sri Chaitanya Dev High School in Jaleswar under Open School Education System, providing education regardless of any age and particular qualifications to appear in the matriculation examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education (BSE).

“The preparation for the annual Class-X board exam would not have been possible without the support of my family members. It is a dream comes true for me as I am able to appear in the exam and get my degree even at this age,” informed Kalpana.

“I am confident of coming victorious in the examinations,” said the 50-year-old woman.

As many as 5, 60,905 students are appearing Matric exam this year in the State. The exam that started on February 19 will end on March 2.
