Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today congratulated internationally-acclaimed sprinter Dutee Chand on being nominated for the prestigious BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year 2021.
According to a report published in bbc.com, Odisha’s pride ace sprinter and Olympian Dutee Chand achieved a new milestone, as she has been nominated for the BBC Indian Sportswoman award along with four other contenders for 2021.
While, the other four contenders for the award are shooter Manu Bhaker, chess player Koneru Humpy, wrestler Vinesh Phogat and Indian hockey team captain Rani.
CM tweeted, “Congratulations Odisha’s ace sprinter Dutee Chand on being nominated for BBC Indian Sportswoman of the year. Wish her the very best and wish her to keep inspiring.”
The five sportswomen who received the most number of votes by jury members have been nominated for public voting online.
“Congratulate India’s premiere sprinter and Odisha’s pride Dutee Chand on being nominated for the prestigious BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year 2021. I also congratulate Imrani Rampal, Manu Bhaker, Vinesh Phogat and Koneru Humpy on being nominated for this award,” tweeted Pradhan.
Further, Voting is open until Wednesday, 24 February at 18:00 GMT and the winner will be announced on Monday, 8 March at a virtual ceremony in Delhi and on the BBC Sport website, the report said.
