Bhubaneswar: Irate over acute drinking water scarcity, hundreds of women reported to road blockade by placing empty pots and buckets in Dhenkanal Municipality Ward-9 on Monday morning.

The women complaints that there is no water supply system in the ward which houses around 1,000 households. While there is not a single tube-well in the ward, residents are fetching water for daily use from distant places.

“We have been demanding piped water supply to our houses for the last five days. Our demands have remained unheard. We have been forced to take to the streets,” said agitating women.

Due to the dharna, vehicular movement on the Dhenkanal-Bhapur road has been severely disrupted.

Latest reports said the Dhenkanal DRDP PD and the Town police have reached the spot and are trying to pacify the agitators.
