Bhubaneswar:  Odisha’s pride ace sprinter Dutee  Chand  was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award for the year 2020 on the occasion of National Sports Day on Saturday.

She received the award along with other Indian sportspersons from President Ram Nath Kovind in an unparalleled online ceremony amid the Covid-19 pandemic, by logging in from multiple cities.

Dutee, the 9th Arjuna awardee from Odisha and notable sprint queen of India, was nominated for the award in the discipline of Athletics. She was among 27 sportspersons selected for the Arjuna Award.

It is worth mentioning, in past, eight sportspersons from Odisha have won the Arjuna Award. They included Minati Mohapatra (cyclist), Bijay Kumar Satpathy (weightlifter), Rachita Mistry (athlete), Dilip Tirkey (hockey), Jyoti Sunita Kullu (hockey), Ignace Tirkey (hockey), K Ravi Kumar (weightlifter) and Pramod Bhagat (para-badminton)
