Bhubaneswar: Amid corona scare, Kendrapada and Dhenkanal district are all set to welcome Goddess Gajalaxmi as all preparations are complete for a 11-day long festival amid Covid-19 norms from tomorrow.

The famous Gajalaxmi Puja will take place from October 30 till November 8, bringing in a wave of festivities in various regions in the State where the festival is being observed in a grand way.

While, Dhenkanal and Kendrapara districts are believed to observe the festival in majestic styles to welcome Goddess Laxmi, who is the goddess of wealth in Hindu mythology. The Laxmi Puja festivity in these districts draws crowd from across the State.

The 11-day festival is celebrated with grandeur in Dhenkanal, while it is a nine-day affair in Kendrapara. Puja pandals on innovative themes have been erected in both the cities.

Besides, this year due to Covid pandemic the celebrations will be a low-key affair and in a view to avoid social gathering, Kendrapada SP Niti Shekhar yesterday issued guidelines to be followed by pandals during the puja.

Kendrapada SP said that as many as 60 puja pandals have been set up by different puja committees across the town, restrictions have been imposed on lighting, decoration, playing of music and cultural programmes at the pandals. In an attempt to prevent Covid-19 spread during the festival, the puja organizers have been instructed to cover the pandals from four sides. Not more than 7 persons will be allowed on the pandals, as per the guidelines issued by the admin

Elaborate security arrangements have been made in these districts to ensure that the festivity passes peacefully.
